SUMMARY:Poetic aperitif
DESCRIPTION:Reading by Marina Skalova\, carte blanche éditions de l’Ours Blanc\n\nMarina Skalova\, Finding the mist of paradise \nWith Trouer la brume du paradis\, Marina Skalova continues her extensive project\, initiated in 2019 following a three-month residency in Moscow under the patronage of Pro Helvetia. \n\n Trouer la brume du paradis\n is a translation of a collection of poems by Yanka Diaghileva\, a comet who briefly shone on the punk scene of the Soviet Union in the late ’80s. \nYanka Diaghileva’s songs and poems\, written in an abrute language that conjures up strange images imbued with folkloric and mythological elements\, tell the story of an existence shaped by urgency and precariousness\, but also by the need not to bow to the demands of a dying dictatorial state. \nTrouer la brume du Paradis is part of a vast cycle of translations undertaken by Russian-born poet and translator Marina Skalova. It focuses on “the place of women in Soviet Russia”\, through the works of women poets. \nIn so doing\, she reconstructs a genealogy of her own writing\, recalling its roots in a radical\, anarchist Russian literary tradition that has always refused to give in to any form of oppression. \n  \nMarina Skalova (Moscow\, 1988) writes poetry\, theater and UFOs that explore the black holes between literary genres. She is also a literary translator from Russian and German. \nAuthor\, she has published Atemnot / Souffle court\, (Cheyne\, 2016) reissued by Héros-Limite in 2023; Exploration du flux (Seuil\, Fiction & Cie\, 2018); La chute des comètes et des cosmonautes (théâtre\, L’Arche\, 2019)\, which she translates into German with Frank Weigand. \nThis autumn sees the publication of her translations of Tu es l’avenir (Vanloo editions)\, a collection of poems by Galina Rymbu\, a major Russian poet living in Ukraine\, and Verdicts by Lida Youssoupova (Zoème editions)\, a book of documentary poems based on Russian court reports. She is currently translating all of Yanka Diaghileva’s poems and songs for Editions Zoème.

SUMMARY:Funny bestiary... by Jean-Luc Fornelli
DESCRIPTION:Jean-Luc Fornelli’s funny little bestiary \nImpayable author Jean-Luc Fornelli will give us the immense pleasure of presenting – and varnishing – his brand new\, beautiful Étrange Bestiaire at the Bains des Pâquis\, on Thursday\, October 19\, 2023\, at 6 pm. A droll collection for all ages\, enhanced by hilarious illustrations by Spirou cartoonist Giemsi. Fornelli will be gracing us with a tasty happening of which he has the secret\, evoking small and large beasts\, of course\, but not only that… Book signings and an aperitif are on the merry program. Inventor of the Swiss haikuku under the pseudonym Gossip (yes\, it was him!)\, he recently published “Les Aigrettes”\, diary of a poet frosted even in summer. Organizer of lively\, naughty and joyful public readings at the helm of La Zéniale Compagnie\, Fornelli surprises us once again with “L’Étrange Bestiaire”\, as unusual as it is comical\, and sure to get your zygomatic muscles firing! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe strange bestiary

SUMMARY:Philo at the Baths
DESCRIPTION:It will soon be fifty years since we experienced what some call the humanities crisis: university humanities departments are\, at best\, seeing their budgets or staff numbers reduced from year to year\, or\, at worst\, being forced to close. Does this reflect the inability of certain academic circles to renew themselves and “keep up with the times”? Or is it simply because students are less and less interested in this type of study? And what can these departments do to reinvigorate their students’ interest in the arts and citizenship that are needed now more than ever? \nWith Basile Zimmermann (author) and Marco De Francesco (illustrator)\, we’ll be tackling these questions in connection with the publication of their book Humanités Populaires\, la Culture des Objets. \nBasile Zimmermann is a lecturer and researcher at the University of Geneva. He runs the Confucius Institute and is particularly interested in Asia and digital objects and cultures. \nMarco De Francesco is a digital craftsman based in Lausanne. \nThe discussion will take place under the yurt at the Bains des Pâquis\, free admission. The presentation will be illustrated by Marco

SUMMARY:How is sign language developing in Geneva?
DESCRIPTION:As part of the “Portraits parlés” exhibition at Les Bains\, this café-philo will look at the daily lives of deaf people in an attempt to better understand this too-often ostracized community\, opening up dialogue and exchange between hearing and deaf people. In particular\, we’ll be looking at the many developments in sign language in Geneva as necessary adaptations and social\, cultural and linguistic responses to hearing loss. \nGuests: \nFrédérik is a deaf artist\, painter\, illustrator and cartoonist. Born in 1974\, he lives in Geneva. He began drawing at the age of 5 and has never let go of his pencil. In 1995\, he obtained his diploma in theater design. RTS and the press entrusted him with several mandates as a storyteller and cartoonist. Since 2008\, her project on the History of the Deaf has occupied her full time; created in the form of large-scale gouache paintings using a unique pictorial technique\, they represent emblematic figures\, an era\, a theme\, linked to deafness. These paintings\, which have already attracted a great deal of public attention at exhibitions\, are full of powerful symbolism and colorful imagery\, and tell us the story of the Deaf\, their history and their future.\ninner world. \nJaime Barria is a Geneva-based hip-hop artist and blogger of Chilean and Colombian origin. Passionate about events\, he excels as an entrepreneur and also organizes philosophical cafés. At the University of Geneva\, her research focused on Geneva’s deaf population\, with the aim of creating a guided tour highlighting their history\, culture and arts. In particular\, he has explored the RTS program “Signes” and the translation of the Bible into LSF. The visit ended at the VROOM restaurant\, and provided an opportunity to discover the richness of Geneva’s deaf culture. \nThe café-philo will take place under the yurt. Free admission
